First Vegas Shoot awards handed to 36 youth shooters

More than 750 junior and cub archers competed over Friday and Saturday in 12 different divisions of The Vegas Shoot 2019. Competition winners were awarded the event’s first medals in the evening of Saturday, February 9.

Youth and cub divisions in Vegas shoot 30 arrows each of the first two days of competition. Any ties at the top are decided by shoot-off.

Recurve and compound cub, youth and young adult divisions, male and female, received their medals.

Nelson Kadin from the state of South Dakota took the Compound Youth Male division after shooting a perfect score at his third Vegas Shoot.

“I had to put in a lot of work, but I tried not to think much about it. I shot a lot of arrows, didn’t take any breaks and tried to fun, which is what I wanted,” said Nelson.

Fourteen-year-old Faith Miller, who shot a world record in December 2018 at the Roma Archery Trophy, the third stage of the 2019 Indoor Archery Series Final, claimed the Compound Young Adult Female title with 597 out of 600 points.

In Rome, Miller scored 594 out of a possible 600 points for the 60-arrow 18-meter ranking round. If the Vegas Shoot had been shot on the World Archery vertical three-spot, that score would have been another record.

“This is my fifth year at The Vegas Shoot and it’s one of my favorite tournaments of the whole year. I love the event, the people, it’s always a great time” said Miller.

“Everything just clicked. I’ve been practicing a lot, shooting lots of arrows and I guess what they say, “when in Rome…” helped.”
