A World War II veteran is competing in the compound flights at the Vegas Shoot for the third time – at the age of 103. Charles Johnson is a veteran of the military, but not the sport: he has been shooting archery for 'only' seven years, having been introduced to it by some golfing friends. "I'm enjoying myself, you know what I mean? And that's good. Meeting people, you know. That's what's I'm enjoying." A late-starter to the sport, by some measure, Johnson was attending with his wife. "I don't know too much about Vegas. I like to just come here for archery. And people remember me. That's very encouraging, you know. I love people. I hope I can be an inspiration to some other people. That's important to me." Johnson first competed at the Vegas Shoot in 2023, and is keen to keep going as long as he can. "When you get to this age you know you wonder: what's your value? You know you have nothing to do, and you don't have nobody to compete with your age."
